The Great Deficit Swindle

We are being robbed, impoverished, and subjugated in a way that will have destructive consequences for generations.

Public wealth is being sold off and public services are being destroyed to finance repayment of a deficit in the public accounts that was created by lending vast sums of money to privately owned companies which had been mismanaged to the point of collapse.

As a nation we are paying for the ineptitude of the individuals who controlled these financial institutions. Nothing more complicated than that. These financial institutions have colluded with a corrupt and near-sighted UK government to ensure that they feel none of the pain of the their actions. Instead it has been turned into a huge advantage. The false discourse of austerity dictates a sale of publicly owned assets and service. The chief beneficiaries of this will be the same financial institutions which engendered the situation.

We are seeing a private take over of land, wealth, and governance which mirrors the Inclosure Acts which denied people access and rights over previously commonly-held property.

They wish to make us clients, to wrest from us control of vital assets and render us unable to fend for ourselves: having to purchase back from them what we owned out-right in the first place. This means land, education, council services, and the NHS will be privatised, turned into instruments of profit for the minority of owners rather than benefit for the wider public.

Once under private ownership these assets are turned to the narrow goal of profit, with all the wilful blindness that entails: the destructive externalities; the willingness to excluded on the basis of price; the ever increasing gap between rich and poor. These are the draconian control mechanisms of capitalism, a calculated method for existing power and wealth to maintain its dominance.

Unless we act to prevent this we will move towards the failed and failing US system of health-care, we will see greater environmental destruction and we will lose even greater control over the basic governance of our own lives and education will move further towards facilitation of production and away from understanding and cultural creation.

These are not accidental outcomes, they are the intended consequences.
